Swansea College provide high quality realistic working environments for training hairdressing, beauty and holistic therapy students. Modern technology and traditional training come together at Swansea College’s Broadway Centre, where i-salon helps hairdressing students master salon management skills as they hone their cut and colour techniques.
Comprehensive Training
The college, which has six classes of 18 students in its latest intake, trains budding stylists up to NVQ level three. Along with classroom lessons, much of their practical work takes place at a busy on site salon. At least twice a week, the course’s bright young things offer discounted hair services to fellow students and members of the public, ranging from cuts and colour to treatments and blow-dries.
“Dealing with clients in the salon gives students fantastic experience of the world of work,” says receptionist Julie Adams. “And while the focus is on helping our trainees develop their hairdressing skills, the i-salon system also helps them understand more about stock control, finances and managing appointments.”
Ease Of Use
“We use i-salon to keep track of stock for all our retail products, monitoring what’s selling well and when we need to order more from our suppliers,” Julie adds. “The students don’t have the time to learn their way around a complicated piece of technology, but i-salon fits in perfectly. It’s easy to use.”
Keeping In Touch
Since introducing i-salon nearly four years ago, the Swansea College team have also used the system’s functions to keep in touch with clients. By maintaining customers’ details on the program’s database, it’s easy to contact existing or lapsed clients via text message or email, or generate a list of their addresses to organise a marketing mail-out, promoting the salon’s services and special offers.
Ongoing Support
And it’s not just clients and students who are benefiting from i-salon’s service – the course tutors have been thoroughly impressed with ongoing after-sales support from the technical team too.
“We’ve only had to contact the i-salon technical team once with a query, and they were extremely helpful and efficient,” says Julie.“They understood exactly what we needed and resolved our issue very quickly.”
While the focus is on helping our trainees develop their hairdressing skills, the i-salon system also helps them understand more about stock control, finances and managing appointments.
